This is an intermediate level course. You should have some familiarity with Photoshop. You’ll need a digital camera that supports shooting in the RAW file format. Although the class is focused on Adobe Camera Raw, other converters will be discussed. |
About the Course
This course will cover everything you need to know to capture the highest quality images your camera is capable of. From exposure in camera to processing the RAW file in Adobe Camera Raw, Jon Canfield will provide the information you need to take your digital photography to the next level. The RAW format is used by many photographers to capture all the detail possible with their images, and gives the most flexibility when processing images for print or web.
What You Will Learn
You’ll start out learning the differences and advantages of shooting in RAW compared to JPEG. Part of the challenge with digital imaging is workflow, and we’ll spend time on how to effectively work with large numbers of files and making selections for further processing.
RAW differs from other formats by giving you the option to change almost every aspect of your photo, and you’ll learn how to correct for color temperature, maximize shadow and highlight detail, and make contrast and brightness adjustments. You’ll also learn advanced techniques like black & white conversion, merging multiple images to increase dynamic range, and batch processing files.
We’ll get into color management to help you understand how to evaluate your images before printing or sending to the web, and how profiles affect color in your photos.
We’ll also cover other RAW converter options like Capture One, Bibble, Nikon, and Canon to show the range of possibilities. And, to give you a chance to work on the topics discussed, we’ll spend a morning shooting images that can be used in class.
Most of the class will be devoted to actually working on RAW images. We’ll start with supplied images to help you understand the adjustments being taught, and then we’ll move on to working with your own images, with the instructor spending time answering questions and offering advice as you work on your files. At the end of the course, we’ll have a slide show with student work to showcase your efforts.
The course includes a detailed syllabus and test files.
Who Should Attend?
