John Weiss, for many years professor of art and director of photography at the University of Delaware , now leads travel photography workshops to fascinating destinations across the globe. He led seven safaris to East Africa, and his 2008 workshops include journeys to Morocco, Peru and Venice.
John's book, The Face of Baseball, was featured
in both LIFE magazine and on NBC-TV's Today
show. John is also author of Venus, Jupiter & Mars - an authoritative monograph on the photographer, Frederick Sommer.
He is currently at work on two new books: Portraits of people Who Never Were - digitally enhanced close-up portraits of people in Ireland, and The Maasai of the Mara Rianta - Photographs and legends of Africa.
Widely published and exhibited in both the U.S. and Europe, his photographs are in numerous public and private collections, including the Museum of Modern Art , New York, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris.
An inspiring and gifted teacher, John is a recipient of his university’s Excellence in Teaching Award. His graduate photography program was honored with "The Photo Review Award" in 2002. John is also the recipient of the 2006 "Excellence in Photographic Teaching Award" as selected by the Center for Creative Photography.
