This is an advanced beginner or intermediate level course. You should be familiar with Photoshop to include the use of layers and masks. Although we will not shoot any photographs during the course, you should bring digital captures with you.

About the Course

This course will cover Photoshop CS3 techniques that may be used to finish your digital workflow and to produce high-impact prints. Hal and Victoria will demonstrate the Photoshop work, assist the class with their images, and oversee printing. Each student should expect to leave with multiple prints of at least 13 x 19 ready for framing.

What You Will Learn

You will start by learning several techniques to focus your image on the subject. We will cover non-destructive dodge and burn as well as Eddie Tapp’s Cookie Lighting.

We will then learn image sizing/optimization. Once the image is sized appropriately we will discuss several sharpening options.

With a finished image, Hal and Victoria will guide the class through multiple finishing techniques to include:

-A detailed discussion of the Fx button on the Layers Palette

-The “George Lepp” Border

-The “Bull” variation

-Breakout borders

-Use of custom brushes to create a frame

We will conclude by executing a color-managed, print workflow. Emphasis will be placed on printing with the Canon 5100, 8100 & 9500 printers.
