About the Course
This Digital Printing Workshop is geared towards the artist or photographer interested in producing fine art Giclees. Here’s a quick look at this educational session and what the two speakers have to say about this hands on educational event.
“I am passionate about art and I love to share my knowledge. I believe that the more you give out, the more knowledge and opportunities comes back to you,” says Randy Hufford, digital print master and photographic artist at Limited Editions Maui, part of the Institute of Visual Arts, Kula, Maui, Hawaii (www.visualimpact.org).
Rebecca Hufford said attendees of this session titled “Digital Printing Workshop featuring Fine Art Reproduction from Capture to Finishing,” can “expect to have a lot of fun. We'll have an optional on location shooting of California scenics, tips and tricks to printing on canvas and other fine art media, and doing a gallery wrap.”
Other subjects to include color management, how to build a custom camera profile, soft proofing, how to calibrate a monitor, digital workflow, using Photoshop for art reproduction, what a software RIP is, differences between different inkjet printers, how to choose a printer, what a printer profile is and how to build one.

Additionally, attendees will have lots of hand-on experience, in areas such as adding hand torn edges to fine art papers, adding protective coating to canvas, building a stretcher bar, stretching a canvas, embellishing a print, and adding texture and brush strokes to a print. Each student will leave with a finished 18x24 stretched canvas print and a hand torn fine art print.
Randy and Rebecca Hufford obtained this knowledge during their 30 years of running a fine art reproduction facility. They began shooting 8-by-10 transparencies and doing limited edition Cibachromes, but the facility is now all digital. The transition reduced the staffing requirements from 14 employees to just two.

“I love creating and selling art. There are a lot of people that see reproducing art and creating fine photography as art to be mysterious, and I really enjoy seeing the light bulb turning on in students’ heads as they learn the simple steps to master this skill,” Hufford says.
