This is an intermediate to advanced level course. Participants should know how to optimize images in Photoshop, such as making tonal and color adjustments, and already be making prints of their own images. Field photography will provide the opportunity to improve photographic skills in addition to learning to use digital tools. Digital camera gear is required for the field photography portion of this course, and you should be comfortable with the basic operation of your equipment. |
If you are interested in attending this type of course in the future, please let our office know and we will add you to the list for the next possible dates. Email or call 805-528-7385.
George and Kathy Lepp will host an advanced outdoor photography field course from their home/office/studio in Colorado Springs. The emphasis of the course will be nature photography in the environments around Colorado Springs, Colorado that will include landscapes at the Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, and flower/close-ups in Cheyenne Canyon. The course is timed to optimize the subjects available.
Instruction on the techniques to be used in the field and proper workflow on the captured images will take place at the Lepps’ studio/office. The participants will be expected to have laptop computers capable of working with Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Arcsoft Panorama Maker 4 Pro.
Besides photographing beautiful scenery, the participants will have a chance to excel in solving the problems of high contrast in the field, panoramas, extreme depth of field (Helicon Focus), and time lapse HD movies using a DSLR camera.
Participants are expected to have a good working knowledge of Photoshop CS3 and be able to do short hikes with their equipment at an altitude of at least 6,000 feet and sometimes higher. Pike’s Peak is over 14,000 feet in elevation (you can drive to the top). Time at high elevations will be kept to a minimum. Participants must provide their own transportation throughout the course. Car-pooling is encouraged.
Necessary equipment for participants is a DSLR camera with a variety of lenses from wide-angle to medium telephoto, macro lens if available, a flash, quality tripod and head, and laptop computer as described above with appropriate software. An advisory of additional accessories needed and travel and lodging information will sent to the participants after registration.
This course is limited to six participants so individual help from Mr. Lepp will be possible and field work will be comfortable due to the small group.
